Some tidying up from my first year MFA studio paper. These are things I wrote in my workbook but didn't transfer to my blog until now. These are some ideas to look at going forwards.
The art of memory (a scientific term) is memory by association (and distinct to rote memorisation). I associate memories to these objects, the sounds of the place, the wind, the smells, the types of voices, traffic, skyline, ambiance
Digital human memory - I now use digital storage as a way of remembering - the text message sent as a memory cue, mostly in the hope of a poetic endeavour sometime down the track, when it's become a memory.
Amityville horror house has become, unwittingly, a site for trauma tourism, an attraction for imagined trauma/memories.
Memories can be created by an unusual occurrence or emitted by trauma or our attention may avoid anything unusual as it doesn't fit in with our perception of what is normal within our scope of attention - selective attention test
Fallible memory - slight changes may not be noticed as they don't fit our narrative of what is "correct". The Mandela effect explores the (eronous) concept of alternate memories. and alternate worlds (i.e. the one where Nelson Mandela died in prison).
Nachtraglichkeit - (loosely) retroactivity, hindsight an original experience is reconstituted, retranscribed or rearranged in relation to ongoing circumstances
